Director – Trade Processing (C++/Sophis) | Banking - New York, United States
A global investment bank is seeking a hands-on Director to lead the build and ongoing development of its trade processing platform within the equity derivatives division. The role focuses on platform architecture, trade lifecycle integration, and front-to-back processing of structured products. You will work in a small, high-impact team (5–6 engineers) and partner closely with front-office stakeholders to deliver critical solutions supporting business growth.
This is a high-visibility position reporting into senior platform leadership. The role offers significant ownership in shaping and delivering the future of the structured product processing stack. This is a hands-on leadership role allowing you to wear multiple hats, owning delivery and engaging directly with the business. The platform has a clear commercial impact and supports one of the bank’s most strategic growth areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and enhancement of the trade processing platform using modern C++ (17/20)
- Own end-to-end delivery of trade lifecycle features: trade capture, booking, lifecycle events, documentation generation, settlement, accounting, and feeds to downstream systems
- Collaborate directly with sales, traders, and business heads to define requirements, assess priorities, and drive solution delivery
- Take full ownership of architecture, planning, and hands-on coding within a lean team environment (5–6 people)
- Build flexible workflows to manage structured product booking, investment lifecycle, client documentation and platform stability
- Interface with internal systems for regulatory compliance, client onboarding, and reporting – ensuring solutions are robust and scalable
- Balance business priorities across geographies (e.g., US, Canada, APAC), making judgment calls based on commercial context
Key Requirements
- 10+ years’ experience in financial technology with direct involvement in trade processing or structured product platforms
- Proven C++ development expertise (C++17 or later), with a focus on scalable, high-performance platforms
- Strong understanding of equity derivatives, structured products, and their full trade lifecycle(investment, coupon events, early redemption, etc.)
- Ability to engage directly with front-office stakeholders and translate business needs into technology solutions
- Experience operating in lean team structures – must be capable of combining technical leadership, business analysis and delivery
- Familiarity with Sophis, or similar structured product risk/trade platforms (e.g., Murex, Numerix, Athena, Quartz)
- Experience with platform integration (e.g. documentation systems, risk feeds, settlement, accounting) is highly valued
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to lead conversations with front office and IT leadership
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to regulatory frameworks and compliance-related trade data flows
- Background in building greenfield systems or modernising legacy platforms
- Previous experience in a global bank or capital markets environment
